Some observations: About half of all study abroad students study in 1 of the top 5 countries. China saw a 90% increase in the number of students choosing to study there in 2003/04 over the previous year. Nonetheless, the number of students studying in there each year remains relatively small. Most countries attracted more U.S. students in 2003/04 than in the previous year. Exceptions were Austria (#12) and Holland (#20), where the number of students declined modestly.
