For years, Inga Humpe and Tommi Eckart had composed and arranged music behind the scenes for others. Humpe and Eckart moved to the eastern part of Berlin shortly after the fall of the Wall. It was their musical composition for an ad spot for the East German cigarette brand Cabinet in 2000 that first thrust the pair into the limelight. Not wanting to release the ad spot under their own names, they chose the pseudonym 2raumwohnung, the usual East German designation for a two-room apartment. The unexpected attention from the 40-second ad inspired them to finish the song and release it as a single. "Wir trafen uns im Garten"

gave new fans a taste of what was to come. Their second single "Nimm mich mit - Das Abenteuer Liebe usw."

catapulted the pair into the singles charts. Both of these later appeared on their 2001 CD release entitled Kommt zusammen.

The duo's second album In wirklich took the German Dance Award in 2003. Thereafter, they took a brief hiatus from recording and focused on their music. They also founded their own music label, "it sounds". In 2004, they went on tour to promote their third album, Es wird morgen. It reached number two in the German LP charts.

Since pairing up in 2000, the duo from Berlin has transformed their penchant for computerized music into live performances with a real band. They experiment with electronic sounds mixed with acoustic guitar and groove stylings, while Inga provides the vocals. While they are credited with resensitizing Germans to electronic pop music with German lyrics, their music is far from a repeat of the electronic style of the 80s. They experiment with a variety of musical styles and seek to challenge their listening audience. However, they prefer to keep things on a positive note; sad songs are not part of their repertoire.
