Deichkind
Music style: Hip-HopBand members: Bartosch "Buddy" Jeznach, Philipp Grütering, Malte Pittner, Sebastian "Sebi" Hackert.
Deichkind, the hip hop band from northern Germany, has existed in its current form since 1997. Their self-described rocky start is at least in part attributable to their un-hip-hop-like image. Their appearance and chosen mode of dress are not what fans expect of a group of rappers. And their songs -- many of which are in a strong Hamburg dialect -- often exude an ironic form of humor. Their CDs also contain unusual interludes consisting of reenactments from daily life in Hamburg.
Their unique style first became appreciated outside Hamburg with their second single "Kabeljau Inferno". Their popularity spread with "Bon Voyage", another single from their first album (Bitte ziehen Sie durch) which enjoyed extensive airplay. Two other singles from the album made the German charts. Their second album Noch fünf Minuten Mutti appeared in 2002.
In 2005, Deichkind appeared on Stefan Raab's "Bundesvision Song Contest" dressed in silver suits singing "Electric Superdance"
